The Independence of the Public Prosecution Service in the UAE: Issues and Proposals for Reform

The Public Prosecution in the UAE is an independent judicial authority responsible for prosecuting people charged with criminal offenses and has wide powers in respect of the criminal process. It has a central role in relation to criminal procedures in the UAE judicial system. This research discusses the role of the public prosecutor in the pre-trial stage in the UAE and on their independence in particular. It also deals with number of issues related to the nature and scope of this judicial authority such as impartiality; supervision over judicial police, and judicial supervision over public prosecution decisions. This research recognizes that changes in world perspective of public prosecutions require a reform of the UAE Public Prosecution Service as necessary step to comply with international standards
